Special Announcment about JDRF

Dear Family and Friends,

On October 2, 2010, Im going on a 1-mile walk at Shelby Farms. Im sure most people dont write you to announce their walking schedule. However, this is an important event for me, for the hundreds of thousands of young people, like my daughter Allysean, who suffers from diabetes. On October 2nd the walk to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will take place. I will be there because I want to find a cure for my daughters disease.

Allysean was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when she was seven years old. For the past seven years living with diabetes has been a daily struggle. Each day she tests her blood sugar four to six times a day. She is on an insulin pump, which provides her insulin. However, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, and Allysean will not grow out of the disease. Juvenile diabetes does not go away when you get older. Furthermore, it is the long-term complications from this destructive condition that we fear most. They include potential blindness, heart disease, vascular problems and kidney disease. Now you can understand why Im highly motivated to put down my snuggie, get off the couch and prepare to walk on October 2nd.

There is some good news. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the largest private funder of diabetes research in the world and since it was founded in 1970, has awarded over $1billion to diabetes research.

Researchers in the field dont talk about if they find a cure; they talk about when. By raising money I hope to make a difference and to speed up the time when a cure will be found. That is why we have organized a team to participate in and raise money for the JDRF Walk. Our team goal is to raise $800 for diabetes research.

We are asking for your help. We are willing to walk and we hope you are willing to contribute. Your help could fund the research that provides the critical breakthrough towards creating a cure. We are hopeful that you and/or your company would be willing to contribute towards this worthy cause. Please visit our team fundraising page to make a tax-deductable pledge on-line. We would love for you to walk with us! Please let me know if youd like to walk. I can provide you with more information on our team shirts. We appreciate your help and you taking the time to consider supporting this cause that is so important to us.

Sincerely,

Gwen
